Plagiarism Screening
Plagiarism screening will be conducted by the Editorial Board of Jurnal Bisnis dan Kajian Strategi Manajemen using the Turnitin Plagiarism Checker.
The Editorial Board of Jurnal Bisnis dan Kajian Strategi Manajemen recognizes that plagiarism is unacceptable and has therefore established the following policy, which outlines specific actions (penalties) to be taken when plagiarism is identified in a manuscript submitted for publication.
Definition
Plagiarism involves the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own original work.
Policy
Submitted papers must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Any content taken verbatim from other sources must be clearly distinguished from the original text by:
-
Indentation,
-
Quotation marks, and
-
Proper citation of the source.
Any borrowed text that exceeds fair use (defined here as more than two or three sentences or their equivalent) or any graphical material reproduced from another source must include permission from the copyright holder and, where applicable, the original author(s), and must be properly cited.
When Plagiarism is Identified
The Editor-in-Chief will assess the degree of plagiarism and determine the appropriate action based on the following categories:
1. Minor Plagiarism
Definition: A short section of another work is plagiarized, with no significant data or original ideas included.
Action: The authors receive a formal warning and are requested to revise the text with proper citation.
2. Intermediate Plagiarism
Definition: A significant portion of text is plagiarized without adequate citation.
Action: The manuscript is rejected, and the authors are banned from submitting to the journal for one (1) year.
3. Severe Plagiarism
Definition: A substantial part of the manuscript is plagiarized, including original data, figures, or key findings from another publication.
Action: The manuscript is rejected, and the authors are banned from submitting to the journal for five (5) years.
All listed authors are considered equally responsible for the content of the submitted work, as they sign the Jurnal Bisnis dan Kajian Strategi Manajemen Copyright Transfer Form. If plagiarism is confirmed, all authors will be subject to the applicable penalties.
Repeat Offenses
If a second case of plagiarism is identified involving the same author(s), the Editorial Board—comprising the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Members—will review the case, and the authors may be permanently banned from future submissions.
Self-Plagiarism and Reuse of Prior Work
This policy also applies to content reproduced from previous publications by the same author(s). If an author uses previously published text or figures, such content must be:
-
Clearly identified,
-
Properly cited, and
-
Permission must be obtained from the copyright holder.
-
For manuscripts with simultaneous submissions to other journals that involve significant overlap, the case will be treated as severe plagiarism.
-
For self-plagiarism involving 10–50% overlap, it will be treated as intermediate plagiarism.
-
If the overlap is confined to the methods section, it will be treated as minor plagiarism.
If a manuscript is based on a previously published conference paper, either identical or expanded, the authors must disclose the conference details and seek republication permission. The Editorial Board reserves the right to accept or reject such submissions.
Use of material from unpublished presentations, including visuals, is allowed in future journal publications. If the original work was published in another language, authors must cite the original source and obtain copyright permission. The editor may allow translated republications to broaden access, but such republications must be clearly marked and approved.
In certain cases, the Editorial Board may republish a previously published paper (e.g., a historic or landmark study) with appropriate attribution and permissions.
Monitoring and Enforcement
The Layout Editor is responsible for maintaining a list of authors who have received plagiarism-related sanctions and will verify all submissions to ensure no banned authors are listed. If a banned author is detected, the Editor-in-Chief will be informed and will take appropriate action.
This policy will be publicly posted on the journal’s website and included in the submission guidelines. Additionally, a copy will be sent to the authors upon the initial receipt of a manuscript. The Copyright Transfer Form includes a declaration that the authors have read and agreed to this plagiarism policy.
Retractions
Published papers may be retracted if:
-
There is evidence that findings are unreliable due to misconduct or honest error,
-
The content has been previously published elsewhere without proper referencing or justification,
-
The paper constitutes plagiarism,
-
The research is found to be unethical.
The retraction process will follow the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
