Peer Review Process

Publication of articles in International Journal of Sport Science and Performance Studies (IJSSPS) is dependent solely on scientific validity and coherence, as judged by editors and/or peer reviewers. Reviewers also assess whether the writing is comprehensible and whether the work represents a meaningful contribution to the field. IJSSPS acknowledges and appreciates the valuable efforts and constructive suggestions provided by its reviewers.

Initial Evaluation of Manuscripts
The Editor will conduct an initial evaluation of all submitted manuscripts within a maximum of 3 weeks. Although rare, it is possible for exceptional manuscripts to be accepted at this stage.

Manuscripts may be rejected at this stage if they:

  • Lack originality
  • Contain significant scientific or methodological flaws
  • Fall outside the aims and scope of International Journal of Sport Science and Performance Studies (IJSSPS)

Manuscripts that meet the minimum requirements will be forwarded to expert reviewers. The full review process typically takes up to 14 weeks.

Type of Peer Review
Submitted manuscripts will generally be reviewed by two to three experts in the relevant field. Reviewers are asked to evaluate:

  • The scientific soundness and coherence of the manuscript
  • Whether the manuscript duplicates previously published work
  • The clarity and suitability of the manuscript for publication

IJSSPS implements a blind peer review process.

Review Reports
Reviewers are expected to evaluate whether the manuscript:

  • Clearly states research objectives and identifies the research gap
  • Applies appropriate and rigorous research methodology
  • Adheres to ethical research standards
  • Presents results/findings clearly and supports the conclusions
  • Properly cites and references relevant prior work

Reviewers are not responsible for language editing or copyediting. Language correction is not part of the peer review process.

Editorial Decision
Reviewers provide recommendations to the Editor, who is responsible for making the final decision regarding publication. The Editor may also consult with members of the Editorial Board when necessary. All decisions made by the Editor are final.

Editorial decisions are generally categorized as:

  • Revisions Required
  • Accept Submission
  • Decline Submission
  • Resubmit Elsewhere

Reasons for Rejection
A manuscript may be rejected for several reasons, including:

  • The manuscript does not fall within the scope of the journal
  • The manuscript does not follow scientific writing standards or author guidelines
  • There are fundamental methodological errors
  • The author refuses to revise the manuscript based on reviewer feedback without valid justification
  • There are indications of plagiarism exceeding 25% similarity index
