Integrating Agricultural and Marine Sustainability: The Role of Social and Cultural Approaches in Green

Abstract

Transforming sustainable development in the agricultural and marine sectors is a crucial agenda in addressing climate change, environmental degradation, and socio-economic inequality in coastal and rural communities. This article examines how the synergy between green and blue innovations can be strengthened through a social and cultural approach. The study employs a qualitative, literature-based methodology, reviewing studies on agrarian and coastal communities related to social resilience, social capital, local wisdom, and collaborative governance. The results indicate that the success of agricultural and marine innovations is not solely determined by technological and economic aspects, but is also significantly influenced by cultural factors, social relations, local value systems, and community participation. Local wisdom of coastal communities and farmers plays a strategic role in maintaining ecological balance, managing natural resources, and developing community-based economies. Strengthening collaboration between the state, civil society, academia, and local communities is crucial in building resilient food and marine systems. This article recommends a more inclusive, participatory, and culturally rooted development approach to strengthen the integration of the agricultural and maritime sectors within a sustainable development framework.
