Abstract

This study aims to thoroughly diagnose the instruments used to assess lecturer competence in Indonesia. The respondents of this study were students enrolled at a large university located in the southwest region of Aceh Province, Indonesia. A stratified random sampling technique was applied, and 280 participants completed the questionnaire in full. The collected data were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS software version 4.1.0.9. We concluded that only 13 indicators were considered valid and reliable, namely KD1, KD2, KD4, KD5, KD6, KD7, KD8, KD9, KD10, KD12, KD15, KD16, and KD17. Four indicators had to be excluded from the model because they did not meet several criteria of the statistical test requirements, namely KD3, KD11, KD13, and KD14. Additionally, the pedagogical, professional, personality and social aspects were valid and reliable measures of the lecturer competency construct. We conducted the assessment of lecturer competency solely from the students’ perspective. Future research could consider conducting a 360-degree assessment, incorporating the perspectives of superiors, colleagues, and students. This finding has confirmed the validity of the Indonesian lecturer competency questionnaire. It is anticipated that this instrument will serve as a reference and provide valuable insights, contributing to the advancement of global scientific knowledge.
